I would recommend the NexCell 1350 mAh type cells with solder tabs as being
the most appropriate for constructing a new battery pack. They have some
non-tabbed 1500 mAh cells, but without tabs you will have a hard time
soldering together a battery pack, and the 1500 mAh type cells will not
take as many recharge cycles as the smaller cells and are unsuited for high
current drain applications.
A general note of caution: Soldering directly on the end of a rechargable
battery is a good way to harm a battery if you're not careful to avoid
overheating. Solder tabs make it a lot easier to do properly. Even with
tabs, be careful that you don't heat the joint any longer than you have to.
The liquid chemical solutions inside the battery can easily be boiled by
the heat from soldering.
