Hello:

"Don't want to sound down on my 2400. I love the size and it's fast
enought for everything I need to do. But if the iBook didn't look like
a garish toilet seat and weight in 3 pounds heavier I would have got
one instead of the G3 upgrade. . . "

I agree. I've been interested in a G3 upgrade for some time. However,
recent enquiries have led me to believe that MacOS X Client will not run on
an upgraded 2400. If the current MacOS wasn't such a lemon upgrading would
be worthwhile. As things stand, I see an upgrade as an (expensive) dead
end.

Elsewhere: David Stempnakowski <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> said,
"I can't give you a for sure, definite answer. I did attend a meeting
with our local Apple Rep back in April and the question was asked at
that time, but more in regard to older PCI macs with G3 Processor
cards installed. The answer given at that time was that only machines
which originally had G3 and later processors installed would be
compatible. It had something to do with the ROM and logic board
architecture".

and Dave Schroeder, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> University of Wisconsin, said,
"I can guarantee to you that OS X Client will not, and will never, work
on a 2400c with any kind of upgrade card, G3 or otherwise. It has
nothing to do with the processor, but rather the motherboard architecture
of the machine. Unfortunately, I don't have time right now to write a
detailed explanation, but I'm afraid that's your answer".

Those seem fairly conclusive.

"...a garish toilet seat and weight in 3 pounds heavier..." That has got to
be the most perceptive description of Apple's recent handiwork I've seen.
Funny but sad. Never mind the quality. Feel the width.

Have a good day: Douglas Wagner
