I had to go away for a few days and since I was in a hurry I left my PB
2400 sleeping while I was away (plugged into the wall socket, so it
wouldn't run out of juice).
I returned yesterday and wanted to resume what I was doing and tapped a
key to revive it. NOTHING happened !. I pressed Apple-Control-Reset,
nothing again, not even the familiar beep. Meanwhile the little green
light continued to flicker like it always does when the computer sleeps.
I then tried the reset button on the back of the computer (the one behind
the door). The little green light stayed on in stead of flickering then
but nothing else happened.

After a second push on the reset button the light went out... several
resets later (both with the reset button behind the computer, the
reset/on button on the keyboard and Apple-Control-Reset) the computer
stayed dead.
I then unplugged the computer tried the 3 resets again, nothing. Then
plugged it back in but removed the battery, nothing... I then uplugged it
with the battery removed and pressed all resets each for a minute. I then
plugged the computer back into the current and placed the battery back in
and BINGO it restarted !!!!

The first thing I noticed was that the time was wrong and the date was
set to 2054. I corrected this and then saw that the battery in the menu
bar had a cross over it. I removed the battery and put it in again, the
picture changed to an empty battery but a second later a battery with a
cross again. Does this mean that my battery is dead ? Or is there
something else wrong with the computer. The battery was working perfectly
before giving me around 2 hours when working a lot with the computer. How
can I find out if it's the battery or the computer. The local Apple
dealer says he can't check anything since the PB2400 is NOT supported in
Europe.

Before I order a new battery I would like to know if someone with a good
knowledge of electronica can find out if the battery is wrong and maybe
also if the computer is good/wrong. If the battery is dead how is this
possible (it was perfectly ok before) ? If the battery is broken can
someone with a good knowledge replace the cells in it.

If I have to get a new battery where is the cheapest place to get one ?
