Just a note to all those with frayed cables to their AC block. Used a dental disc to slice the plastic case open (it's glued tight, you might crack it trying to pry it open, but one post said he could), spliced and soldered the wire back and voila, it works again for as long as it take to fray again.

I speculated in a previous post about the possibility of putting a DC plug in the case as a permanent fix. Won't work unless you're a pro. I tried a 2.1mm radioshack female socket and it wouldn't fit without rubbing against wires inside. . .
