Not final answer.  The mirroring worked fine, but when I got up on 
the podium, plugged the projector in and restarted, I got nothing. 
Yes it was 800 x 600.   I also can't find a Video Mirroring control 
panel or extension, though the control strip module shows up.  Anyone 
have advice here?
