Hello:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] said, "IMHO if all the posts were 100% on topic,
[the Duo List] would become about as interesting as a railway
timetable".

I feel a little uncomfortable making this point. I don't want to
injure Mr Davis. (And, of course, this note is off topic).
Nevertheless, a principle is at stake.

If anyone truly believes the proper matter of the list has the
interest potential of a railway timetable, then one must wonder if he
is truly interested in the subject.

There will always be some disagreement about what is germane. But
most of us know, if we care to think, what is proper material and
what isn't. Clearly, we shouldn't use the list to work off steam or
make those snappy retorts that most serve the vanity of the writer. A
list is a public forum not a personal stomping ground.

In my experience, the more undisciplined a list becomes, the less one
is likely to find useful material. Individuals with specialized
knowledge who make the effort to contribute will have drifted away.
