Yep, that's how it usually goes. The cable modem connection to your Mac is via 10baseT ethernet. On my ADSL setup, the TCP/IP control panel is used to set up the connection to your ISP so that when you turn your computer on you're online. Cable modems do it the same way. Somehow the modem negotiates your machine ID to the ISP, magic happens and you're on a big fast fat pipe to the internet. It works more or less invisibly, unless your ISP makes you log on.

I'd definitly consider it. . .
