Andrew,

I found the 280c to be every bit as fast as my 2300c... very good machine
even with the smallish (by Wallstreet standards) screen. As for
upgrades, generally there is so much you have to swap out, most folks
will counsel to just buy a 2300c outright. Once again, the speed
improvements were marginal, only the PPC chip for PPC-only sw proved any
benefit IMHO. Most of my favorite sw (Word 5.1a, Quicken, Emailer...)
worked great, and I have no interest in playing the upgrade game for
software that already has more features than I need.

The best thing to do is to get a docking station, so you have the best of
both worlds: desktop and laptop computer. Usually about $75/100. The
docking station should have a lid for color Duos (there was a 3 mm gap
needed... the original lid was too low and the color duo would not fit in
the dock). The back of the dock will have SCSI port, adb, serial ports,
display and plenty more -- usually a built-in 14.4 modem, nubus cards,
internal space for a hard drive...

Minidocks are also available, along with floppy drives (I have one up for
sale on eBay right now), external power packs for extended battery usage,
auto adapters -- and at under 5 lbs, Duos are really comfortable to tote.

Here's a plus: I have my work 280c up for sale. I've seen pricing on
eBay from 250 to 400. Excellent shape, but I've reduced my staff here,
so I have more laptops than employees right now. Interested?
