If you can swing it, an inverter is far superior to any DC car adapter.An
inverter gives your AC power out of DC. It's just the opposite of a
rectifier, which give you DC out of AC.

 THe DC adapter will give you the 12VDC or 14.2 VDC or whatever, but you
then have to drag an adapter for every different voltage.

With an inverter, you get 120VAC  and (within the inverter power limits)
can plug anything that runs off 120VAC into it. Although a small-power
inverter of a 100 watts or less may power your Powerbook just fine, It's
nice to have a large enough size that will let you run an electric drill,
small spray gun, or microwave oven or stereo off it. 746 watts = one
horsepower, so you can guess your size requirements from there.
