Hi list, thanks for all who help me with this. This is really embarassing. I haven't switch the selection to internal modem in PowerBook Setup control panel. Newer PowerBooks can switch the modem destination with Modem Control Panel, but I guess on the PowerBook 170 I have to manually change it via PowerBook Setup control panel. Strangely, Global Village modem doesn't need driver to work on PB1xx machine. I installed old MacPPP, with ConfigPPP control panel, plus Netscape Navigator 2.02, and nothing else. I don't have GV control panel anywhere on the new freshly installed HD (system 7.5). Anyway, thanks again.
