Hi Mark!

Sorry for delay in replying. Yes, the A50 is a great camera also - it
does indeed plug directly into the TV if you so wish. My A5 has a
video out, and comes with a cable to use with my TV. you can get full
specs here : http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/a50_f.html - it has
NTSC out.

If you have a Powerbook 2400,then the only extra thing you'll want is
a PC card adaptor so you can do mega fast file transfers. You can get
these almost anywhere, but mine is a Lexar Media thing -
www.digitalfilm.com ( a good source of stuff is
http://www.d-store.com/, as is http://www.henrys.com - and you can
get a Microtech adaptor here :
http://www.d-store.com/d-store/microtech/qs-cfa.html ) - without
this, you can still transfer, but will need to do so via serial port,
which is a tad slow.

As far as software goes, it will come bundled with TWAIN drivers and
all the software you will need etc - but I transfer files directly
and manually, and use the absolutely excellent iview multimedia
program to manage all my imagery - http://www.iview-multimedia.com -
it is soooo cheap, is shareware, better than any commercial thing
I've seen, and I love it - as well as Graphic Converter for any
conversion purposes. I managed to pick up a Canon CD-200 Digital
Printer for $100, but I also use an Epson Stylus Color 740 printer,
and that works great too.

As far as hardware goes - just pick yourself up a good case to cart
it around in, and that's about all you will need. The camera comes
with a charger and lithium battery, and one is fine for me. I carry a
spare standard (non-rechargeable) battery around with me just in case
I run out of juice, but perhaps you want to pick up an extra
rechargeable. you might want to get some more flash memory, but if
you use the PC card method of exchanging imagery, it's almost no
hassle to do so and you won't need to bother with a whole load of
flash mem.

Let me know if I can help further!
-Gordon.
