Briefly,
I am trying to get viavoice to work on my 240/1 2400c. I cannot even
get the microphone to work. As you are all aware, the 2400c does not
have a plaintalk microphone, so the headset that came with viavoice
wouldn't work. I dug up an old "silver dollar" apple mic, but I
couldn't get sound to record with that either. The apple help window
states that I need a usb or plaintalk mic, or a plaintalk adapter, a
normal mic will not work. My questions are the following.

1. Is an upgraded 240/1 2400c with 80mb just too darn slow, and
should I give up on this whole stupid attempt. The viavoice package
says that a 233 G3 should be enough, so I know I am cutting it close.

2. If it is worth a try, how do I get a mic to work in this puppy?
I assume that I need a plaintalk adapter, how do I get hold of one?
Are they expensive? Do other alternatives exist?

3. Should the old "silver dollar" mic work, and does the fact that
it did not work signify a problem with the hardware? I am running
OS9, if that makes any difference.

Thank you for your attention. As hardware ages and users dwindle, it
becomes increasingly difficult to get help from retail channels.
When I walked into a Mac-oriented computer store today with my 2400c,
the kid behind the counter acted as if I was trying to get software
to run on a rock. It got his attention when I told him there was a
G3 in it. I can't part with this thing yet, I don't have enough cash
for a new powerbook and I am not going to be seen at work with a
gigantic translucent blue toilet seat.
