I'm thinking of buying a Ricochet modem from Metricom and using it with my Duo 270c running System 7.6.1. I'd also plan to use this from my car. I have a 140 watt inverter to supply 120 vac power, although the Ricochet modem comes with battery-powered models also. Has anyone tried this? Advice, glitches, fixes? I will have soon to go into a hospital for some complicated surgery and wanted to maintain Internet access. Also will have to move soon, so wireless connection is better than nothing until regular phone line gets installed. I have toyed with taking this 270c/Ricochet rig to auctions so I can check at least eBay for current biddings, etc.. If you didn't know already, the Ricochet modem is a small radio transmitter that allows mobile use of your modem. The catch is that it works only where Metricom has installed enough receivers. Right now, 28.8 kbs is max, but 128 kbs is in the works, scheduled for release this summer. Paul Allen (via Vulcan) bought 49.5% of Metricom and Qualcomm owns something like 35%.
