I'll get you a print out that is direct from apple!  It's also a good idea
to try and leave  about 25 percent of  your hard drive empty. (VM)
Maybe I am stupid or over doing it, but again I don't have the problems
others seem to have.  I rebuild the desk top weekly, blow the pram monthly,
also run Norton and optimize the drive every other week.  I also do a full
bootable back-up of all my Mac's monthly.  Each has between 25 to 50 percent
of the drive as free space.
