You've just discovered one of the "features" that comes with owning and
operating a Duo Dock. Yes this is normal behavior. Maybe someone else can
explain why. You may also note that your Duo will not sleep in the dock, even
though almost all other desktops of the period will.

As for the Option/Command/Escape or force quit command, you will note that if
it works, your computer is not actually frozen, it is tha application that has
frozen and the fact that you can force it to quit is a function of the Finder,
which has not crashed or you would not be able to access your system to force
quit.. The keyboard becomes totally useless in the event of an actual freeze.
Just reach around back and press the reset button instead (just don't obscure
it like I did in a custom cabinet or you'll be sorry).
