Actually, since you use it mostly for word processing, I'll bet you could get
quite a bit more battery time. i.e.: create a RAM Disk which holds your Word
Processing software and minimal system folder (you don't need much for typing
papers in a library). Then, every time you save, also manually, put your hard
disk to sleep afterward. Processor cycling should not affect your typing.
Also, make sure you put your PB to sleep every time you make a trip to the card
catalog or into the stacks to retrieve books. Turn the brightness way down on
your screen, which should be fine in a library and with a fresh type III
battery, you might just get that 4-5 hours battery time Apple lied to us about.
The battery would be a worthy investment assuming you don't have other
problems. Try to get a known working battery and test it first (after you've
reset your power manager, etc.)
