Newertech has been offering a G3 upgrade card for the 2400 for years, in fact it is 
now discontinued. I found one of the last ones for cca $380 at MCE.

It died though after some 3 months of use but Newer is replacing  it without blinking 
an eye.

As for putting it in being easy - well, you have to take some 40 screws out and take 
into pieces the whole thing before you get to the processor slot. 

But it is fun, no question anbout it.
