See if you have installed AudioTuneUp; there should be several such
extensions in your System Folder:Extensions folder. This supposedly
fixes audio sometimes not working when running on battery in 2400c under
OS 8.1. If not, get it from the Apple web site and see if it fixes your
problem.
Now, I have AudioTuneUp, but on the same topic, coincidentally, I just
tried my audio input for the first time this morning, and it does not
work. I'm an electrical engineer, been playing with sound since I was
10, and yes there is definitely line-level stereo audio on the cord I
plugged into the audio input. I tried to record a new "alert" sound
using SimpleSound. I also tried recording using a demo of Macromedia
(BIAS) Deck. No sound, that is, no dB in either case. My sound control
panel is set to "Built In", the only choice. Does anyone know a trick to
turning the audio input on?
