I was given a old powerbook due 230(with 8m ram and 50m HD), which seemed
to work OK except the battery is completely flat and I can't seem to
recharge it.(where can I buy a new battery).

It had system 7.1 on it with loads of rubbish in the system. I wasn't
sure want system I could up grade it to so I found my old 7.5 disks and
loaded that on it. It seemed to work much better once I customised it a
bit. A college used it, and needed to access some info and didn't have a
plug socket handy for the power supply so they tried using a 12v power
adaptor from a car and said nothing happened.

When it was returned I tried turning it on it pinged then you here a
couple of clicks from the speaker the screen lights up but no pointer and
the HD doesn't start to spin. The keys appear to work (i.e. caps lock
light goes on and off, reset using "apple key" + "crtl" + "power key"
works)

Is there any thing I can do? If it doesn't cost much I'll fix it, other
wise I'll send it to mac heaven.

As it was only 12v I would off thought it wouldn't effect it, unless the
+ - where round the wrong way. Or do you think their not telling me
something!!!
