The clicking noise is most likely the HD read/write head arms clanking as
they search for elements upon which to boot up; this is not unusual. I
suspect, however, that there is a corrupted or missing item in the
directory, startup file, or perhaps something as simple as the driver being
messed up.

I do not think the problem is with your power manager. Try updating the HD
driver with v1.7.3 first. If no change occurs, use Disk Warrior to rebuild
the directory. This failing, break out TechTool or Notrun Futilities. Am I
biased? Nooo.  ;^)
