Yes it will, but probably not for the reasons you may think.
The reason a larger drive (IDE or SCSI) will speed up your Duo is because the
newer drives tend to be faster anyway and they have much more information stored
in the same space as an older drive. This means the read/write head may not have
to move as far to access whatever it is you are trying to do. This is particularly
true with System info which is generally kept in the same location. Shorter head
movements ... faster access time.
However, depending on access speed (something not always considered when buying a
new drive), and assuming all things are equal, the SCSI drive will ALWAYS be
faster than an IDE drive. But keep in mind that the SCSI transfer rate of the Duo
is only going to be at 1.5 MBps. So, if the IDE drive you are considering meets
this rate, you probably won't see much improvement beyond that with SCSI.
You'll pay quite a bit more for a SCSI drive the same size or less than an IDE
drive. My Duo speed increased considerably when I installed a 4.8MB IDE drive.
However, you need to be warned, any IDE drive over 4MB will NOT be able to be used
in SCSI disk mode, so you will loose this functionality. I do not believe this is
a limitation with a SCSI drive over 4MB, however.
