No. The Duo takes a custom designed modem that, due to the Duo's design,
actually has the power button incorporated into it, which as you may imagine
also requires a custom connection. Therefore, it has a limited market. I don't
think that the fact that the Duo modem is software based is as big an issue,
since all that means is it has to conform to Apple's driver specifications,
although, either way, it means a custom designed modem that either requires a)
a power button no other PB modem would need and b) designed for use with
software that only the Duo & 500 series PowerBooks can utilize a rapidly
shrinking market and budget minded market). My point in the case of (b) is that
a modem could be designed that could be a hardware modem that could "sense"
whether to act as such or be a hardware modem. But, with a custom connection &
the power button requirements, there is no other PowerBook it could be
compatible with.
