As much as Apple would like the rest of us to think differently
(pardon the references) OS 10 is not going to anything like the MacOS
we have grown to love over the years. Having said that, I'll add that
I have been doing UNIX stuff for over 10 years now, including
NeXTstep (I have a Turbocolor NeXTstation humming along nicely right
next to my 2400 as I type) and I have *nothing* against UNIX as an
operating system at all. I have administered SunOS, Solaris, AIX,
A/UX (remember that!), SCO, NeXTstep, Linux, *BSD, and even had a
short stint with Xenix.

I have also tried to use UNIX and unix-like OSes on laptops before
and have *never* been satisfied with the results. The 2400c is
probably not a good candidate, even with my G3 upgrade... especially
due to the RAM limit of 80mb. Yes I know I can get an additional
16mb, but the cost is.... well, lets just say I don't have enough
lubricant to justify the process of extraction.

I just can't see taking a big 'ol unix install on my 2400. Sorry.

MacOS 8.6 is just fine thanks.

I'll run OS 10 on desktops and servers probably from the day of
release... in fact I just got the latest DR yesterday and will
install it on a G4 tomorrow. But I'll draw the line right at my
laptop because that is where I do my *work* and currently it *works
just fine.*

As bizarre a statement as this may be, you can go ahead a quote me on it:
"I'm not going to risk upgrading my 'daily driver'... my 2400c
powerbook, to a 'modern operating system' just for the sake of
upgrading. It is not broken, so I don't feel the need to fix it."

It has taken Microsoft almost 7 years to get their 'modern server
operating system' (NT) to perform reasonably within the limitations
(and strengths) of the laptop environment. I suspect it will take
Apple a whole lot less time, but I don't expect OS 10, release 1, to
be too laptop-friendly. Especially on an older model like my 2400.
