Thank you, Michael and Ralph for your pointer to the mac2400 site
about hinge maintenance (which will be helpful to me in the future)
and hinge repair.

I just wanted to let duolisters know that finding a hinge for the
2400c is TOUGH (no luck at sunrem, powerbookguy, midwestmac, macresq,
dttservice). i did, however, find one at allmac -- they had to
special order it but it was the only place that seemed able to help
get the part. None of the places mentioned above list the hinge on
the sites but i wrote to the sales departments and heard back
directly from all the sales reps. Hope this helps anyone who finds
themselves with a broken hinge. (I certainly have benefited from
duolisters who have pointed me to sites that sell hard-to-find 2400c
parts.)

fyi, the place to send inquiries at allmac is: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
