Off the bat (and this is the extent of my knowledge) - it sounds to me like a conflict 
between your system and the LaCie driver(s). Maybe you should contact LaCie to find 
out. Hopefully others can tell you more.

In general it helps to also include your computer's model and system software version 
when asking for help.
