Likely, it was in �near new� condition before they �so called� refurbished it. We
Mac owners tend to take care of our stuff <g> Mine is older than yours -and it
looks showroom perfect.

Did your CD-ROM come with any software tools, like APS PowerTools v4.1 or
CharisMac Anubis? You need to install something like this to cause your Extensions
to load a �driver� for your CD-ROM. Other than that, I keep Control Panel for
SCSIProbe v5.0 in my Apple Menu Items, so if any peripheral does not load on
Start-up, I just pull the Apple Menu Items down and use it to mount the
recalcitrant drive. I could attach it to an e-mail, but you say you don�t have the
card yet. Catch-22 situation.
I would give serious consideration to finding and buying the floppy disk drive.
You just never know when it will come in handy. They are occasionally found on
eBay and I have seen them sell for reasonable prices at places like MacResQ
