My case was exactly as you describe yours. My 2400c suddenly ran off AC but
would not charge nor run off the battery even though the menu icon and
control strip showed depleted. I did all the power manager voodoo to no
avail and sent it to Apple, fortunately under warranty, via Micro Center.
Apple replaced the power supply I/O board according to the paperwork Micro
Center gave me. My only gripe is that the repair took 2.5 months, Oct.
98-Jan.99. I then bought 2 years of AppleCare and my 2400c has been perfect
ever since except for a degrading trackpad clicker.
