I have to agree. I was the IT director for a global publishing
company during the dark days of the 5300 (1995/1996). That machine
caused me no end of problems. In fact I'd have to point to the 5300
alone as the cause of 75% of the migration to Windows 95 inside that
company.

Associating the fine engineering of the 2400 with the complete
disaster that was the 5300 is quite unfair. The *only* thing they
share is the 603 processor. The 2400 shipped almost a full two years
after the introduction of the 5300, and 9 months after the 5300 was
thankfully terminated from the Apple product line.

The only problems that you can pin on the 2400 are:
* The wonky AC adapter cord where it meets the brick.
This is moot in that just about every other powerbook's AC
adaptors work fine. Unlike the 5300, Apple kept the 'usual'
AC adaptor for the 2400 series.

* The ROM bug that prevents the use of >4gig disks in SCSI disk mode.
This bothered me for a while when I had an 8500 as my desktop.
Now that I have an iMac and a B&W G3, I'm just going to go buy
a huge drive for my 2400.

* The weird power-manager 'green light of death' issue.
I have encountered this once, but somehow managed to recover
within a few hours. This seems to be the only significant
recurring problem out there that strikes fear into the hearts
        of 2400 users.

The 5300s problems were on such a greater scale than this I won't
even attempt to catalog them here. (though I could, having lived
through them all!)
