This is a bit obscure, yes.  First, you have to create a StorageSet 
(whose name has changed to something else in the latest 
version--Backup Set) that's a *file* on the backup volume.  If you 
choose "Backup" there's a "Destination" button in the Immediate 
Backup dialog, which will let you create a "Macintosh file" Backup 
Set.  This should be on the drive you want to use for backups.  Then, 
using the "Options" button, you choose "Normal Backup."  That will 
append any new or changed files to the backup set, but NOT delete old 
ones.  To do that, you have to use "Recycle Backup."

I don't know if Retrospect Express will let you backup to a file.  I 
know the full version will do that.
