I've been fiddling around with the different duo battery packs and
discovered the following things:

The type I battery packs use AA batteries arranged in rows. One can easily
remove these existing cells, put in copper spring contacts and replace them
with pairs of cells connected end to end. the original config is five on
each side with a center divider. If you remove the center divder and trim
the excess plastic for the rather useless indicator switch, you'll have
enough space to put in strips of suitably formed copper spring steel.

with shrink tubing.

The type IIIs are a bit more difficult. These packs use 4/5 cells which are
slightly larger in diameter than AA cells. Obviously this is an
afterthought. The case plastics in the type III have been so thinned that
in some areas it really is just the label that covers the pack.

It is more difficult to re-jig this thing because the cells are not arranged
in rows, but in columns with one row on top and its an extremely tight fit.
What I've been able to do is bring out the wires (and the heat sensors, but
this really is optional) and have a cellpack of 10 NiMH C cells in the back
pocket of a wetsuit.

Oh, and a question for the list:

What is the largest Memory module that will work on a Duo 250. I don't mean
the largest that it will recognize, but the largest that will work. I
intend to upgrade my Duo 250 to a 2300c in the meantime, I need to upgrade
the memory from 12 MB to the largest useable module, which I will then
transfer to a 2300c once I have the funds to upgrade to that.

If I can get a 48 MB mem module and use it in my 250 (even if it will
recognize only 24 or whatever), pending its future transfer to a 2300c, that
would be ideal.
