After reading the manual(thank you Fabian) I realized that after I
the first time I installed the ram, when the light glowed green (pg
81 in the pdf manual) I should have let it do it's business with
checking the ram. Since the hard disk wasn't spinning up I thought
it was a power problem and kept on unplugging and plugging it since
that's what I had to do with my duo when it didn't want to start.

Now I can't get it to do the reset procedure even after zapping the
pram, both with techtool and openapple-option-p-r and removing and
reinserting the ram. Is there anyway to manually invoke the reset
procedure? Am I going to need to physically remove the pram battery
to reset the pram?

I am sorry if I have offended anyone with my "sweeping
generalizations", it was completely unintentional.
