this is the type of information that can benefit a lot of folks, so ill send
it to the list...
my question to you would be: how can this shop possibly test the modem
and/or say it is o.k. if they dont have the software to use it? i think the
shop was a little liberal in their assessment. what did they do to test it?
did they simply visually look at the card and not see something obvious?
that is not a substantial test. (i have a stack of dead duo modems where
one or more chips fried and there is no visual indication)
a couple of the "at home" old test techniques was to install aol 2.7 and see
if it could dial out, or faxcilitate to autoconfigure... but you still need
to have the right modem driver installed. what color is the phone jack
plastic within the modem (black or grey)?
it may be a global village modem, so the telecom package may not be the
answer...
and -- you do have a known good analog phone jack and cord, right?
