I just started using the Location Manager on my Duo 2300. It really helps. I
have a MiniDock at work with an Asante Micro EN/SC for connecting to my G4 &
LaserWriter network. I have a dial-up connection using an external modem
connected to the MiniDock modem port. I used to use the 14.4 internal modem
on the 2300 but it's too slow and I only use it for accessing email when the
2300 is not connected to any Dock.

My DuoDock at home allow me to connect to my small ethernet LAN there. I
have DSL set up for internet access which I share via a G3 upgraded
PPC8100AV. The 8100 is running IPNetrouter (which works great). I have 4
Macs (including the Duo & 8100) accessing the internet in this manner.

The problem:
When I go to work and plug the Duo into the MiniDock and boot, the Location
Manager dialog box at startup offers me my choice of locations. I select my
setting for the MiniDock of course. After it boots up Location Manager tells
me everything was changed OK. I then try to make a connection via the Remote
Access control panel and it tells me there is a problem. I open up the
TCP/IP control panel and I no longer have the PPP option available in the
"Connect Via:" popup menu. Only "AppleTalk (MacIP)" and "Alternate Ethernet"
are available.

I found that, at this point, I have to restart the 2300 and Zap the PRAM.
After that everything is OK. At the end of the Day I shut down, go home,
plug the 2300 into the DuoDock, select my DuoDock settings offered by
Location Manager at startup, and it boots fine. Everything work as it
should. I can go on the internet, check email etc. Unfortunately the next
morning at work I have the same problem repeated again and again. Zapping
the PRAM always works but it resets too many other setting back to their
default.

Everything worked when I manually changed settings. It started when I began
using the Location Manager. This is why I suspect it is something related to
Location Managers functionality and not something within the System. I have
tried disabling all items related to the internal modem as well as many
other things.

I'm running MacOS 8.6 (it's slower than 8.1 but I like some of the 8.1 to
8.6 changes as well as Sherlock's search/find functionality), Speed Doubler,
RAM Doubler). I have 32MB physical RAM and a 770MB HD. I don't have a lot of
other extensions running as I moslty use this with Outlook Express 5 and
AppleWorks 5. I sometime use Explorer 5 also.

Hope this isn't too windy but I like to offer as much info as possible up
front.

Thanks in advance for any ideas/solutions offered!
