Hello, The package-maint.el is, in fact, dgnushack.el with some modifications. I tried to understand the code at best as I can but such issue are directly inherited from dgnushack due to a lack of understanding. At that time, I was looking for something like the package management in XEmacs: a common framework for compiling and installing a lisp package, generating autoloads, etc. I wonder if all of this is usefull for the inclusion in Emacs.
