That part is mostly working, but only for the xmtn back-end; all the other back-ends need work. I did start on the bzr back-end; I'll start a separate thread on that soon. I've also made several other experimental changes in that branch that I have not even brought up here. I'm planning to split out just the dvc-fileinfo part, so it can be merged with main.
