This is an interesting idea. Not sure whether it would fit the organizational-minded types, but boolean operators for tags could take away some of the need for a strict hierarchy. If I had three tags: "glass, windows, microsoft", proper AND (intersection) and OR (union) boolean operators would let me search for either all entries tagged windows, all entries tagged with either windows OR glass (which would also include entries about microsoft windows), or all entries tagged with windows AND glass (no ms windows). I still like the idea of somehow organizing the tags (e.g., today I'm in a mood to write entries about coding, but I have a long list of tags about my personal life. Wish I could tuck them away so I can easily pick out the tags that are relevant to my topic), but it would be less needed. Several ideas for approaches have already been tossed out onto this list, and there are issues with each; I'm not sure what the best approach is. Bundling tags may not be ideal for the case when you have a tag with the same name that you use for two different purposes. Tagging the tags could be complicated.
