The new icon does go automatically on all the old entries, since the entry remembers the keyword you used and not the particular icon. So if you reassign the keyword to another (existing or just-uploaded) icon, then all entries using that keyword will automatically show the new icon afterwards. So your suggestion would only save you deleting the previous icon associated with that keyword; the "reassign entries from the old icon to the new one" is already in place. (The opposite thing isn't possible, as far as I know -- changing the keyword on an icon, say from "scifi" to "science fiction", and having old entries still show the icon. That is, I don't think you can globally change all entries and comments that use keyword "A" to now use keyword "B", so if you want old entries to keep showing the icon, you have to add the keyword as an additional keyword of the icon rather than replacing the old keyword.)
