This ain't right. The right way is >>> exec startx&; logout <<<
This is what I've got: >>> alias safe_startx="exec startx -- -nolisten tcp &!; exit" <<<
The exclamation mark bit is to detach the process from the terminal in zsh.
Anyway, the point is that startx is just as safe as *DM. The only reason why to use *DM is to be able to quickly switch between various users. Which is IMO usualy pointless on a home pc.
