Why not just add the window to the currently selected column instead of having these modes? If the master client is selected the new window is prepended otherwise it's appended.
if i've got only one window open and i occasionally want to open a small terminal in the stack then it's not an option also there are cases when an application (in master area) randomly opens up new windows/dialogboxes and i want them to be appended imho toggling between modes by the selected column is not a good way to do it
