Chuck: What you got was a notice that you have to renew your certificatation for your call(s) which has to be done once per year. Likely they have a valid reason for doing this. I have done it twice so far and haven't found it difficult to do. I update my log for my one call sign a couple of times per year, and so far LOTW hasn't turned out to be a good resource for me for getting contacts confirmed. When I work a station, I usually QSL via the bureau if I want a QSL, and most people who use LOTW also are good QSL'ers via the bureau.
I have no way of knowing if they will sumbit their logs to LOTW, so I go ahead and send the card. I usually get their card via the bureau which negates the need to get credit via LOTW. I have never gotten a single credit for a contact via LOTW. I have all but 2 countries confirmed now so I don't do a lot of QSLing any more. The important thing to me is that I am helping a lot of others get a contact with me confirmed via LOTW. I believe LOTW is a good program for a lot of people, particularly if they are just getting started. I hope people will continue to support it.
