19/12/2003: Bill, N4ZDL, will be active as 9Y4/N4ZDL from Tobago
(SA-009) between December 19th and 25th. He will operate on 10, 15, 20,
40 and 80 metres SSB and CW. QSL via home call, direct or bureau. [Tnx

20/12/2003: Jim Buffington, K5JIM (ARLHS member #150), has announced
plans to activate two Louisiana lighthouses, both of them in the New
Orleans area, on the opening day of Lighthouse Christmas Lights. The
pair includes New Canal Lighthouse (ARLHS USA-536) and Port Ponchartrain
(ARLHS USA-650). These will mark the 13th and 14th activations of 2003
for Jim. Tentative time of operation for New Canal is 15:00 UTC on
Saturday, December 20 for two hours ... with the Port Ponchartrain
operation PROBABLY beginning at 18:00 UTC. Both lighthouses are on Lake
Ponchartrain. QSL cards will be available for an SASE via K5JIM's QRZ

20/12/2003: Jim, K9BIG/p (ARLHS member #716), will be activating a few
lighthouses for the ARLHS Christmas Lights QSO party that runs from
December 20, 2002 to January 5, 2004. Look for Jim on 40 through 10
meters around 7.270, 14.270, 21.370, and 28.370 (+ or - depending on
QRM, nets, other activations etc.) He is also going to bring his
portable 6-meter beam just for fun. Jim plans to activate the following
lighthouses: December 20th from Kenosha Southport Light, Kenosha, WI
(ARLHS USA-912), December 21st from Kenosha Pierhead, Kenosha, WI (ARLHS
USA-416), January 3rd from Windpoint Light, Racine WI (ARLHS USA-894)
and January 4th from North Breakwater Racine, WI (ARLHS USA-682). QSL

20/12/2003: Deacon Dave, W1MCE/m (ARLHS member #492), will be
activating Portsmouth Harbor New Hampshire (ARLHS USA-662, during
Lighthouse Christmas Lights. Date unknown but will be on 40 then 20
meters from the mobile. Total operating schedule is hoped to be 3 hours
each day on 2 different days. He has a 1 1/2 hour commute to get there.
All QSOs will be QSL'd automatically. Please don't send Deacon Dave any

20/12/2003: Warren, WM2Z/m (ARLHS member #133) plans to activate the
following lighthouses during the ARLHS "Lighthouse Christmas Lights"
event (0001z December 20, 2003, to 2359z January 4, 2003): Horton Point
(ARLHS reference USA-387), Long Beach Bar (USA-440), Orient Point
(USA-606) and Plum Island (USA-633). Activity will be on 20 and 40 meter

23/12/2003: Vlad, UA4WHX, will be QRV December 23rd to 25th from
Huahine Bui (IOTA OC-067, DIFO FO-004), French Polynesia. QSL to home

25/12/2003: Look for Jo, DL1AB/p, to be QRV December 25, 2003, through
January 2, 2004, from Baltrum Island (IOTA EU-047, DID reference N-06
for the German Island Award). Activity will be on 80 and 40 meter SSB.

25/12/2003: Mark, VK2GND, will be QRV December 25th to 31st as VK9LD
from Lord Howe (OC-004). Look for him on or around 14273 and 14195 kHz.

28/12/2003: Ken, JA1CMD (N4XJ), will be QRV December 28th to January
2nd as VK9CA from Cocos-Keeling (OC-003). He will be active on 80
through 10 meter CW and SSB with 100 watts. QSL via JA1CMD or K4ST. [Tnx

28/12/2003: Pete, N2LM, will be active as ZF2PD on Grand Cayman Island
(NA-016) from December 28th through January 8th. Activity will be 80
through 6 meter CW and SSB. Requests for QSL cards can be sent to his

30/12/2003: K4MCE (Mark) and N4KZ (Dave) will operate the special
events station N4Z from St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (IOTA NA-106),
between December 30th and January 5th. Their activity will be on 160-6
meters SSB and CW. QSL via N4KZ (QRZ.com). [Tnx OPDX]
01/01/2004: Jean-Louis, F6AGR, from AMSAT-France, reports that
Sebastien, who got his ham license October 31st, will be active for one
year (2004) on AO-40 (and LEOs) from Amsterdam Island (FT1Z, WW Loc.
MF81TX, IOTA AF-002). He also plans to be active on 50 MHz, and on HF as
soon as the French laws permit (he has a no-code license). AMSAT-France
is actively preparing his SAT hardware (dish, 2.4 GHz converter, yagi,
etc., which have to be as light as possible), providing training and
will handle QSL cards. [Tnx OPDX]
01/01/2004: Sara, HA9SD, and Eli, HA9RE, will be active from Tuvalu
(OC-015) between January 1st and 18th (callsign TBA) and from Tonga
(OC-049) as A35RE from 20 January to 4 February. They plan to operate CW
and SSB on 80, 40, 30, 20, 15 and 10 metres with two stations. QSL
direct only via HA8IB ("against 2 new IRCs or 2 US$"). [Tnx 425DXN]
03/01/2004: Jeffrey (KG0VL) and Justin (K9MU) will depart St. Paul, MN,
at 11:30 am on January 1st. Beginning January 3rd, the two operators
will activate Grids EO16 and EO26 for the next couple of weeks.
Operators will sign VE4/K9MU (from EO16) and VE4/KG0VL (from EO26).
Their activity will be on HF, 50, 144 and 903 MHz. Liaison frequency is
7268 kHz (Days) and 3958 kHz (Evenings). Because of increased traffic on
7268, they will also monitor 7265 kHz (+/-). Their interesting travel

05/01/2004: Peter, NO2R, has received his callsign/license and will be
active as XU7ACY from Sihanoukville, Cambodia, between January 5th and
12th. Activity will be on 160, 80 and 40 meters exclusively. QSL via

IOTA 40th ANNIVERSARY AWARD (from G3XTT) -
Just a reminder to IOTA enthusiasts (and would-be IOTA enthusiasts!)
that IOTA 2004, the IOTA 40th Anniversary Awards Programme, starts on
1st January. A set of files for downloading is now avalable on the CDXC
(Chiltern DX Club, the UK DX Foundation) Web pages, at www.cdxc.org.uk
(follow the IOTA 2004 links). These include a tracking spreadsheet that
does absolutely everything you might need (my thanks to G3PMR and G3LAS
for their work on this) or, if you don't want that level of complexity,
a simple application form and lists of Premium Island Groups (by month)
and Rare and Unnumbered groups qualifying for the DXpeditioners Awards.
Remember that all applications must arrive in electronic form. No paper
applications will be accepted. Full rules and a list of Frequently Asked
Questions also appear on the Website, but questions may also be sent
direct to me. Any queries about the IOTA Programme as a whole should, of
