the Bengal Amateur Radio Society, informs OPDX readers to look for special
event stations using special callsign prefix blocks to celebrate the 149th
birthday anniversary of the greatest Indian Scientist and Inventor, Acharya
Jagadish Chandra Bose. He states, "Few Indians have been ornamented with
the title of 'Acharya' which in Sanskrit means 'Guru' or 'Spiritual Master'
or a person possessing great knowledge and wisdom and is a tribute to Sir
J. C. Bose whose devotion and dedication to science was solely for the love
of science, and who spread his knowledge to entire mankind for the good of
the human race without thinking of any personal benefit. He never aspired
for money nor fame and thus has not being given due recognition for his
scientific endeavors which led to the discovery and advancement of radio
communication as we know today. The man was far ahead of his times and even
today his work on millimetric waves is being utilised in radio telescopes.
Special permission of the Ministry of Communications and Information
Technology, Department of Communications, Government of India, has been
accorded vide letter no. L-14011/640/2007-AMT dated 19.09.2007, to the
