BARNEGAT LIGHTHOUSE (NICKNAMED "OLD BARNEY"). YES, "OLD BARNEY" WAS
OFFICIALLY RELIT ON JANUARY 1, 2009 , WHICH WAS THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF
IT'S ORIGINAL LIGHTING (JAN 1, 1859). THE LIGHTHOUSE WAS OFFICIALLY SHUT
DOWN IN 1944 AND BECAME A STATE PARK IN 1957. SINCE THAT TIME, ONLY A 250
WATT LIGHT WAS LIT FOR AESTHETICS ONLY. ON JAN 1ST, A NEW LIGHT WITH A NEW
FRESNEL LENS WAS LIGHTED AND OLD BARNEY ONCE AGAIN IS AN OFFICIAL

08/01/2009: Bernhard, DL2GAC will be active again as H44MS from Honiara,
Solomon Islands, (OC-047) between January 8th and April 28th. He works SSB
only and plans to focus especially on 40m/80m. He will be joined by the CW
op Sigi/DK9FN, and the EME op Hermann/DL2NUD, by the end of February. All
three of them are planning also a short trip to Temotu (H40) for two or
three weeks. Their flight to Lata, the capital of Temotu, has been booked
for March 2nd. Sigi will return to home on March 16th and Hermann on April

08/01/2009: The Provins ARC, F6KOP will be active as TS7C from the Hotel
Cercina, Sidi Fredj, Ile Chergui (WLOTA LH-3459, Kerkennah Islands
(AF-073), Tunisia, from January 8-18th. Planned activity will be on all HF
bands, using CW, SSB, FM, and several digital modes like RTTY, PSK31, BPSK
and also SSTV. The team will pay attention on 160, 80 and 40m, but all the
other bands will be worked as well. They also plan to have at least six,
but probably seven stations, working 24 hours a day, all with PA's into
beams, verticals and wire antennas. Operators mentioned include
Frank/F4AJQ, Mustapha/DL1BDF, Bernard/F9IE, Bob/N6OX, Jean-Paul/F8BJI,

from approximately 07:30 to 08:30, 09:00 to 10:30, 13:00 to 1500 and 17:30
to 18:00 UTC. Spot frequencies to be used are: SSB - 7.063, 14.147,
18.133, 21.253 and 24.953 MHz (+/- 10kHz for QRM); CW - 7.003, 10.103,

12/01/2009: The Japy DX Group are planning an operation in Bahia (WW Loc.
HH18FD), Brazil, devoted to Transatlantic Tropo Ducting events between
Africa and America, following the main expedition of V5/KT6Q. QRV January
12-17th using the call sign PY6/PY2ENO on 50, 144 and 432 MHz using SSB,
CW, and Digital modes (included WSJT). They will use Yaesu FT-897D and

Chuginadak Island (NA-234) is now planning to activate Ogliuga Island
(NA-233, Grid AO52) in the Delarof Islands Group next year between July 21
and August 3, 2009. Jeff Williams with USFWS (KL2HD) suggested to land on
Ogliuga instead of Goreloi due to much better camping spot and portion of
it not wilderness, so generator can be used. Call sign will be KL7RRC.

MIDWAY radio room on January 10, 2009 from 1700Z - 0059Z. Aircrafts from
USS MIDWAY flew the initial air strikes of operation Desert Storm. This

Peter, 5X4X is working as a development aid worker in Arua/Uganda until
June 2009. He uses a Yaesu FT-950 (100 watts), a spiderbeam for

Peter complains that a pirate abuses his call sign on 40m, 80m and 160m.
If you make any contacts with him in the evening hours you should be aware

Croatian Amateur Radio Association, in order to promote sports and amateur

Award is available to all amateur radio and SWL stations that in the
period from 1st January until 1st February 2009 establish certain number
of QSOs with special stations from 7 cities in which will be held 21st
World Handball Championship for men as follows: Zagreb, Varazdin, Osijek,
Porec, Pula, Zadar and Split.
All modes of operation are allowed: CW, SSB, DIGITAL, MIX.
For the award it is necessary to work just one special station in each

DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND, THE OLD BARNEY ARC HAS DECIDED TO EXTEND THE
N2OB/150 AND N2OB/LH SPECIAL EVENT OPERATION THROUGH MARCH 31, 2009.
HERE IS THE PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENT FOR REFERENCE WITH CORRECTED DATES.
MEMBERS OF THE OLD BARNEY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB www.obarc.org WILL BE
OPERATING AS N2OB/150 (or N2OB/LH) STARTING AT 0000 UTC DEC 27, 2008
THROUGH 2359 UTC MARCH 31, 2009. OPERATION WILL BE ON ALL BANDS AND MODES
AVAILABLE. THIS WILL BE TO CELEBRATE THE RELIGHTING AND THE 150TH
ANNIVERSARY OF THE BARNEGAT LIGHTHOUSE (NICKNAMED "OLD BARNEY"). YES, "OLD
BARNEY" WAS OFFICIALLY RELIT ON JANUARY 1, 2009 , WHICH WAS THE 150TH
ANNIVERSARY OF IT'S ORIGINAL LIGHTING (JAN 1, 1859). THE LIGHTHOUSE WAS
OFFICIALLY SHUT DOWN IN 1944 AND BECAME A STATE PARK IN 1957. SINCE THAT
TIME, ONLY A 250 WATT LIGHT WAS LIT FOR AESTHETICS ONLY. ON JAN 1ST, A NEW
LIGHT WITH A NEW FRESNEL LENS WAS LIGHTED AND OLD BARNEY ONCE AGAIN IS AN
OFFICIAL (PRIVATE) NAVIGATIONAL AID. See

relighting. N2OB/150 STATIONS WILL BE OPERATING FROM VARIOUS LOCATIONS
AROUND "OCEAN COUNTY". SOME OPERATIONS FROM THE LIGHTHOUSE PROPERTY MAY BE
POSSIBLE AND WILL USE N2OB/LH WHICH WILL COUNT FOR WORKING THE LIGHTHOUSE
AND IOTA NA-111. A NICE COLOR PHOTO QSL IS BEING PLANNED SHOWING THE

This week's bulletin was made possible with information provided by

TUNISIA, 3V. Members of the Provins ARC are QRV as TS7C from
Chergui Island, IOTA AF-073, until January 19. QSL via F4EGD.
UGANDA, 5X. Peter is QRV as 5X4X until June while working as
development aid worker in Arua. Activity is on 40 to 10 meters
generally before 2000z. QSL via DF5GQ.
MALDIVES, 8Q. Andy, G7COD will be QRV as 8Q7AK from Embudu Island,
IOTA AS-013, from January 11 to 27. Activity will be on 40 to 12
meters using CW and SSB. QSL to home call.
CROATIA, 9A. During the Men's World Handball Championship, special
event stations 9A2009OS, 9A2009PO, 9A2009PU, 9A2009ST, 9A2009VZ,
9A2009ZD and 9A2009ZG are active until February 1. QSL via bureau.
TONGA, A3. Bob, ZL1RS is QRV as A35RS from Tongatapu Island, IOTA
OC-049, until January 15. Of late, he has been active on 2-meter
EME. QSL to home call.
GAMBIA, C5. Niels, OZ8KR is QRV as C56KR from Bakuto until January
14. Activity is on 40 to 10 meters using SSB. QSL to home call.
CHILE, CE. A large group of Amateur Radio operators from Copiapo
will be QRV from January 11 to 25 with special event station
XR27RAID in commemoration of the 27th Raid Atacama desert trophy.
Activity will be on all HF bands using CW, SSB and various digital
modes. QSL via CE6TBN.
LIBERIA, EL. Ashley, EL2AR has been active on 15 meters around 1730
to 1815z. He hopes to be active on 80 and 40 meters soon. QSL via
EL2BA.
IRAN, EP. Mohsen, EP3SMH has been active on 20 meters using RTTY
around 1330z and SSB around 0800z.
CROZET ISLANDS, FT/W. Florentin is QRV as FT5WO currently from
Alfred Faure Station on Possession Island, IOTA AF-008, and has been
active on 20 meters generally around 1700z. QSL via F4DYW.
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, HI. Simone, IZ5JNQ is QRV as HI7/IZ5JNQ until
February 5. He also plans to be active as HI2/IZ5JNQ from the
coastal islands Saona and Catalina, both IOTA NA-122. QSL direct to
EB7DX.
GUINEA-BISSAU, J5. Peter is QRV as J5UAP and has been QRV on 17
meters using SSB from around 1000 to 1200z. He has also been active
using RTTY. QSL via HA3AUI.
ARUBA, P4. Peter, EA5GVH will be QRV as P40PZ while on holiday from
January 12 to 28. Activity will be on 80 to 6 meters using SSB and
various digital modes. QSL to home call.
BRAZIL, PY. Look for operators PY1/PY1ZV, PY1/PY2OC, PY1/PY1RY and
PY1/PY2HN to be QRV from Cabo Frio from January 12 to 17. This
operation is devoted to the Transatlantic tests between Africa and
America. Activity will be on 6 and 2 meters and 70 cm. QSL via
operators' instructions.
BANABA ISLAND, T33. Udo, DL9HCU is currently active as T33HC. QSL
to home call.
VIET NAM, XV. Mike, OM2DX is QRV as XV9DX and 3W1M while working
for the Slovak Republic Embassy. He is here for three years.
Activity is on all bands using CW, SSB and various digital modes.

MACAO, XX9. Vincent, F4BKV is QRV as XX9TKV until January 12 from
from Coloane Island, IOTA AS-075. QSL to home call.
VANUATU, YJ. Ted, VK2EZQ is QRV as YJ0AZQ from Aneityum Island,
IOTA OC-035. Activity is on 80 to 10 meters. QSL to home call.
OPERATION APPROVED FOR DXCC CREDIT. The following operation is
approved for DXCC credit: Afghanistan, T61AA, the license for this
operation has been updated. Anyone having this operation rejected
recently can send an email to d...@arrl.org to be placed on the list
for an update.

Sprint, Hunting Lions in the Air Contest, PODXS 070 Club PSKFest, MI
QRP January CW Contest, Midwinter CW/Phone Contest, SKCC Weekend CW
Sprint, NRAU-Baltic CW/Phone Contest, Midwinter Contest and the DARC
