operation" entry in a major contest. The multi 2 operation will take place from
the Port Elizabeth region QTH of ZS2DL, Donovan, who serves as team leader.
Other experienced contest participants include Barry/ZS2EZ, Mitch/ZS2DK,

Galveston Island (NA-143, USi TX-001S, Galveston county), Texas, on Monday,
March 30th. If conditions warrant, the pair will return to Galveston Island on
Tuesday morning for another day of operation. As the Galveston Island State
Park is still closed due to damage from Hurricane Ike this past September, the
brothers will use generator power. They will run barefoot into a ZeroFive 43
foot vertical. Monday's operation is planned to be mainly SSB, with the
possibility of some CW and digital modes. [K1XN]

31/03/2009: It was announced, at the Maui Ham Club, that the extremely rare
Kalawao County will be on 40m and 20m on March 30th and 31st. MARC member,
Jayson Kohama, WH6BXK, will be working there on those days. After he gets off
work each day, he plans to be on HF making as many contacts as possible. His
station, WH6BXK, will be on the air each day after 18:00 local (6pm) i.e.
0400z. He will be on 7.188MHz and 14.335MHz SSB. Kalawao County is one of the
rarest USA counties. It is the 2nd smallest county and the poorest in the USA.
It is just the Kalaupapa peninsula on the island of Molokai (OC-019, USi
HI-015S, WLOTA 1045). It is the old Hawaiian leper colony. Because it was a
leper colony, it was totally isolated from the rest of the islands and had its
own separate county government, which was administered by the state. Hams must
have special permission to go there and operate. Thus it is extremely rare for
any ham signals to ever radiate from Kalawao. QSL via WH6BXK (QRZ.com). [VK4FW]

multi-band vertical antenna, with focus on 20, 30 and 40 meters. This IOTA
group was activated only once and very briefly sixteen years ago. The costs
associated with this operation are considerable and both group and individual
donors are being sought. QSL via VE3LYC. [425 DX News]

01/04/2009: Piotr/SP2JMR and Slavo/SP2JMB will be active as 3B9/homecalls from
the Rodrigues Islands (AF-017) April 1-8th, and as 3B8/homecalls from Mauritius
Island (AF-049, WLOTA 0595) April 9-17th. They plan to operate SSB and CW on

is KI79MO. For 2 meters they will be using two 10 element yagis, a 400 watt amp
and a preamp (there will be a smaller setup for 70cm). Suggested frequencies
for transmitting and receiving will be on 144.124 MHz, and on 144.084 MHz for
Japan. Ronald will be active on HF with the call 5Z4/PA3EWP using a Elecraft K2
with a homemade amplifier and vertical antennas for 40-10 meters. QSL 5Z4EME
via Eltje, PA3CEE. QSL 5Z4/PA3EWP via Dennis, PA7FM. Complete details at:

island of Curacao (SA-006, also count for WLOTA 0942) from April 1-11th. Jan
reports that he will try to be active on as many bands as he can, except 160m.
He will be on all modes but mostly digital. His equipment is a FT-897 and a a
ZS6BKW antenna (which he states can be tuned on 6m, and he will be using WSJT
(JT6M) on 6m). QSL via home call, direct only. A logsearch will be available at
www.pa4jj.nl/ [NG3K]

but most of the focus will be on 20 meter SSB on 14.260 MHz. QSL via the
information at QRZ.com under VX8X. [rsgbiota.org]

03/04/2009: Frank, DL4KQ plans on being active from Grandi Island (AS-177 New
One!), off the coast of Vasco da Gama, Goa, between April 3rd and 8th. QRV
mainly on the usual island and IOTA frequencies. More info forthcoming
[PlanetHam.org]

Saipan (OC-086). He plans to be QRV on 80-10 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL
via JP1PZE, direct or Bureau. [425 DX News]

QSL INFO -

A station signing EP2IA has been QRV this week on 40 mtrs CW, asking for QSL
via qrz.com. This was my call in the 1970's but I know nothing about the
current operation. If the call-sign had been re-issued I would expect him to
give a valid QSL route. But qrz.com points at G3SXW so I must conclude that
this is a pirate operation.
Please help me to spread the word: PIRATE! I will receive many QSLs that will
be returned to sender (extra work for me) and very disappointing for many DXers
who think that they have worked a new country. There are some very selfish
people in this world.
  Greetings - 73 de Roger/G3SXW.

I've combined my love of railroads and railroad history with ham radio and
created an organization called "Railroad Depots on the Air." The purpose is to
activate railroad depots and sites where railroad depots once were, similar to
how lighthouses are activated for WLOTA. If you're interested, please visit:

Dear Castle Friends,

As many of you know, MSN has ceased the Groups Services. The old DCS-SSD pages
on the MSN Groups have lastly ceased to exist, we already moved time ago to a
new private server in HB9 , kindly offered to us by HB9DRV , and left a
redirection page on MSN groups. Now that page does not exist anymore.
Some of you have on your weeb pages an OLD link to our Castles Award DCS-SSD ,
so we urge you to correct those links as follow:
http://groups.msn.com/DCS-DCTI-DCIN (OLD)
has to be substituted with this one:
http://castles.ham-radio.ch/
that comprises and regards all our awards DCS, DCTI, DCIN, DCS-WE, and other
specials, and the pages for the Swiss Abbeys Awards DAS DATI DAIN (Works in
progress) .
I thank you very much and hope to meet you soon on the air.

Special Event Station celebrates 100 years of Naval Aviation -

On 7th May 1909 the Admiralty began a process that was to lead to the formation
of the Fleet Air Arm.

As 2009 is the Centenary Year of Naval Aviation, there are a number of events
and publications throughout the year to celebrate and commemorate this event.

The Royal Naval Amateur Radio Society is to operate a special event station
during May 2009. The station will have the call sign GB100FAA and will be
operated by members of the Society, initially from HMS Collingwood at Fareham
and latterly at the Royal Naval Air Station at Yeovilton in Somerset.

The RNARS Chairman Mick Puttick says: "This is a chance for us to assist in
publicising this historic occasion. Contacts with the special event stations
and with RNARS members will also count towards the awards issued by the
Society."

Operation will be on SSB and CW on the usual RNARS frequencies, band conditions
permitting, and, +/- QRM:

SSB - 3740, 7055, 14294/14335, 18150, 21360, 28940.

CW - 3520, 7020, 10118, 14052, 18087, 21052, 24897, 28052.

It is expected that a 2 metre FM station will also be operational.

More information about the Society and the awards can be found at:
