95% of the virusus reported on the reflectors are a hoax. It's easy to tell
because there is usually a long forwarding chain. When you get one of these
announcements, FIRST go to either mcafee.com or symantec.com to try to
authenticate it. In this case, since the "virus" wasn't supposed to "hit" until
June 1, there was plenty of time for people to check before doing anything
drastic.

In fact (according to Symantec), this warning was reported on April 17, 2001
and last updated on: May 29, 2001 at 06:22:42 AM PDT.  So there was plenty of
time before June 1 to do something about it (i.e. research).

Just because a virus warning tells you to do something doesn't mean you should
do so without question.  This is just as bad.
