The team had a slight delay due to some luggage that was lost on the way to Fiji. Esmond, 8R1AK, has been using the special callsign 8R1USA on 20/17/15/10 meters. Look for him around 28530, 21260, 18127 and 14247 kHz anywhere between 1900-0500z. QSL via 8R1AK. 8Z, SAUDI ARABIA. A station signing 8Z0A has been active over the past week on 20/15/10 meters. Not much is knwon about this activity other than the operator stated his name was Abdullah and to QSL via HZ1TA. We recommand to "Work First Worry Later" (WFWL). 9G1 GHANA. Arliss/W7XU, Richard/K5AND and Ed/W0SD will be operating from Elmina, Ghana, between October 27th through November 4th. Six meters will be the main emphasis, but there will also be activity on 80-10 meters, especially RTTY and PSK on the usual DX frequencies for RTTY. QSL via N0QJM. A2, BOTSWANA. Toshi, JA1ELY, informed OPDX that he just came back from from Botswana last week but mentioned that 79 year old DXpeditioner Mako, JA1OEM, is still active and operating from Gabrone as A25/JA1OEM. He will continue to be active until October 17th. Toshi requests to "Please be patient with Mako's slow CW operation". Mako has been heard on CW on 40 meters between 2100-0200z, 30 meters after 0300z and 15 meters after 1930z. C98, MOZAMBIQUE. Babs/DL7AFS (YL), Lot/DJ7ZG, Karl/DL2FAG and Simone/ DL8GCS/IV3NVN, will continue to be active as C98DC from Inhaca Island (AF-066), Mozambique until October 13th. The team of operators over the past week have been very active on 40/30/20/17/15/12 meters CW/SSB/RTTY, but keep an eye on the other bands that were not mentioned and some PSK31 activity. CN, MOROCCO. Look for Jacques, F6BEE, to be active from here for the CQWWDX CW Contest using the callsign CN2JS. Jacques will enter the contest as a Single Op/All Bands category, from the ARRAM ARC in Rabat. If he can bring an amplifier, he will operate High power. Jacques will arrive in Morocco on November 21st, but he thinks he will not be too active before the contest except to tune up the station (CW and some SSB). He will leave Morocco on Tuesday, November 27th. Jacques will also try to bring a R7000 (but his luggage is already very heavy); so possibly look for him on the WARC bands before the contest. QSL via F6BEE. DXCC NEWS................ Bill Moore, NC1L, DXCC Manager, announced this past week that the "DXCC has approved ZK1NDK (North Cook Islands) for DXCC credit. It was on the bad list for lack of documentation for a while. The documentation has been reviewed, and it is OK. People can now receive DXCC credit. Anyone who has submitted it and had it rejected, can contact us and we'll be able to update their record without having to submit the card again. If not, it can be sent in the next submission." John, N4MM, informed the users of the NJDXA's DX Reflector that three TT8 Chad operations are NOT good for DXCC. The reason given by the DXCC Desk is that NO documentation has been received at ARRL. Both TT8DX and TT8JE, which have been on recently, are not being accepted for DXCC. F5OGL is the QSL Manager for TT8DX, and John suggests that someone should get the word to these stations and tell them that their QSLs are no good for DXCC unless proper documentation is received at ARRL HQ DXCC Desk. John also mentioned that Bill Moore, NC1L, told him that there are many others from TT8 which are not being accepted due to the same problem. FM, MARTINIQUE. Look for Jean Marc to be active from here as FM5/F5SGI, from February 19th to March 1st, 2002. He will be active on the HF bands, mostly on CW. He will operate from FM5CW's and FM5FA's stations. He has two radios with him (100 watts output each) and several kinds of antennas to cover all 9 HF bands: 160/80/40 meters with wires, on the WARC bands and 20/15/10 meters with multi-band verticals and 2 HB9CV beams for 20 and 15 meters. Their plan is to activate several islands. Islands mentioned as this was being written are: New Georgia (OC-149) on October 8-15th and Piegon Island (OC-065) in the Reef Island group on October 17-23rd. HB0, LIECHTENSTEIN. Laci/HA0HW, Tomi/HA4DX and Geza/HA4XG will be here again during their annual autumn trip as in past years. The operation will take place from Schoenblick, Triesenberg (ASL: 1100m), between October 17-25th. Three stations are expected to be active on the HF bands on CW/SSB, maybe on RTTY, with yagis and vertical antennas by DunaX ( http://www.pannondxc.hu/dunax ). QSL the following callsigns, HB0/HA0HW/p, HB0/HA4DX/p and HB0/HA4XG/p via their home callsigns. Cards will be answered the same way as the operators received them. Direct cards will be answered direct, while bureau cards via bureau. IOTA NEWS............ AF-018. Mauro, IH9/IN3QBR, and Walter, IH9/IN3XUG, will be active from Pantelleria Island, Zone 33, from October 22-26th. Their activity will be on all bands, including the WARC Bands and perhaps 6 meters. Operations will be mostly on CW and RTTY. They will also enter in the CQWW SSB Contest with the IH9P team. Also, look for IR3Z to be operated by Fabrizio, IN3ZNR, during the CQWW SSB Contest. QSL information for all callsigns (excluding IH9P) must be sent direct or bureau to IN3XUG. EU-012. Chris/GM3WOJ and Keith/GM4YXI are returning to Shetland between October 24-29th for the CQWW SSB contest. They will be active during the contest using the unique callsign GZ7V. The GZ prefix is only permitted by special arrangement and so far, this is the only GZ callsign issued. GZ is the unique prefix for Shetland. This counts as GM for DXCC purposes but is a seperate multiplier in CQWW contests, as GM/Shetland is a seperate WAE country. They were active last year also, but many were unaware that GZ counted as Shetland and therefore as a seperate multiplier. They will be entering as a Multi/Multi category and will be active using high power. They will arrive on Shetland on Wednesday, October 24th, and after setting up antennas, they hope to be active on 10/18/24 MHz before the contest to give out EU-012 to IOTA hunters using their home calls/P. He will pull his tower down before he leaves the island, ahead of the cyclone season. He won't be putting the island on air again until the season finishes, probably about April next year. Marco, CE6TBN, wil be going to Chiloe Island and will be on the air as CE6TBN/7 from October 11-31st. He will take part in the CQWW DX Contest as CE6TBN/7 as an All Band/Hi-power entry. QSL via CE6TBN: Box 1234, Temuco, Chile. IR7, ITALY. Alfredo, IK7JWX, informs OPDX that the following special callsign will be used during all the weekends in December 2001: IR7GM. The reason was not given for the use of the special callsign, however, a special QSL will be available via IK7JWX, bureau or direct. J4, GREECE. A group of Greek hams will be active as J41NIK during the 2001 JOTA event (October 20-21st) from Piraeus. Look for the 2nd Aero Scouts Group to be active on the HF bands (80-10 meters), including PSK31 during the evening hours of Saturday. QSL via SV1HR (direct or bureau). J7, DOMINICA. Five members of the Flordia DXPedtion Group (FDXPG), Bill/W4WX (J75WX), William/N2WB (J79WB), Bob/KR4DA (J79DA), Larry/W1LR (J79LR) and Clarence/W9AAZ (J79AA), will be active from Dominica from October 23-30th. They will do a Multi-Single entry in the CQ WW SSB DX Contest. They have been assigned J75J for the contest. Look for them on all bands, including 6 meters, on CW, SSB, PSK-31, RTTY, HELL, and MMTTY before and after the contest. Propagation guru Lee, KH6BZF, wants to remind everyone that 4TH annual Hawai'i State Amateur Radio Convention will be held Saturday, October 13th, at Rainbow Park, Pearl Harbor, HI. Steve, IK4WMH, informs OPDX that from now on he will be the QSL Manager for the IQ4T contest station. He reports that he has all the logs. Steve has received a big stack of cards via the bureau during the last few years and has been supplied with blank QSL cards. He will now start answering all the bureau cards. Andy, DJ7IK, announced that if you are interested in reading the TS7N story about the "Kerkennah 2000" DXpedition look at the following Web page: http://www.qsl.net/ts7n Cezar, VE3LYC, indicates that he cannot act as QSL Manager for Jack's last summer/fall IOTA NA-173 operation from the Nunavut (Hudson Bay - QC Coast) South Group as VY0/W2NTJ until he sends the logs. Just a note of interest/correction, Maylon Harvey, WA2UUK, informed OPDX that he operated XP1AB while on Temporary Duty (TDY) with the Air Force at Sondrestrom AFB, Greenland, from July 20-29th, 1977. So as you can see the callsign has been used since the 1960's. Maylon also knows of one other operation by WA7ZLC who made 229 QSOs in August 1977 and gave WA3HUP as his QSL Manager. He also thinks there were some other small operations. XP1AB was the Air Force MARS callsign for Sondrestrom at that time. Maylon states he made 1,080 contacts and still has the logs and a few blank cards. In the years since then, he has received QSL requests and has sent cards to about 40% of those contacts. Anyone still wanting one, can send a SASE to WA2UUK (QRZ, CBA okay), and he will get a card out right away. Mike, ZP5YW, reports that due to a recent mail rate increase in Paraguay, effective as October 1st, 1 IRC or 1 USD sent to ZP stations as return postage is no longer enough to cover the air mail cost of a letter. The new mail rates require 2 USDs to cover the mail rates to everywhere in the world except for neighboring Argentina (LU) and Brasil (PY), which is a little under 1 USD. Mike states IRCs are useless in Paraguay, as they cannot be redeemed, but they do use them for QSLs that they send to others countries, so they may still be usable. T2, TUVALU. "Team Tuvalu" consisting of Ono/JH7OHF/AH6G (a member of K5K), Ted JJ1LIB/N1GO (a member of 5T5U/S07U), Hiko/JN1HOW/AH6PW (a member of 5T5U/S07U) and Mano/JQ1KNH/W6KNH are pleased to announce the following "big DXpedition for the world DX lovers". "Team Tuvalu" expects to make huge amount of contacts from T2-land (OC-015), especially on 160m for Europe and the East Coast of USA, and on 6m for Europe by long-pass opening. Operations will take place between November 1-8th, using the callsigns T20T or T22T (on HF) and T20SIX (on 6m). Activity will be on 160-6 meters SSB/CW/RTTY. They plan to have three stations on 24 hours a day. USI NEWS. Tom/N1HCI, Murph/WA1VKO, Waine/KE1KX and Mark/K1RMC will be active from Bear Island (NH-NEW), New Hampshire, October 13th at 1400z. They will be operating on 7260 kHz LSB and 14260 kHz USB. CW operations are possible however times/frequencies are TBA. V6, MICRONESIA. Masayoshi, JE1LES, will be active from October 22-28th as V63HJ. Activity will be on 20-6 meters with operations on CW/SSB/RTTY/ PSK31/SSTV. QSL via JE1LES. WAG CONTEST. Wolf, DL5FU, wants to remind the DX community that the Worked All Germany Contest (WAG) is from 1500z, October 20th, through 1459z, October 21st. Activity will be on 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 meter bands, CW or SSB or mixed, max. 18 hours of operating time for single operators are allowed. For foreign stations working German stations, the exchange is sending your report and a serial number. German stations will send report and their "DOK" (Distrikt-Orts-Kenner = District Location Nominator), e.g. K18. Vlado, Z35M, informs OPDX that he is running his own personal "QSO MARATHON" during the calendar year 2001 (January 1st-December 31st) from his home QTH and under his personal call Z35M. He states, as of October 2nd, he has made 26,420 QSOs on all HF bands. He hopes to reach 30,000 QSOs in about a month. His all-time QSO total is 136,920 since August 1987 (under his other callsign: YU5KV,4N5KV,Z32KV,Z350KV and Z35M). Vlado can usually be found on 20 meters CW (around 14026 kHz) between 2245 and 0400z. Also, check 10 meters CW/SSB between 1000 and 1500z. ZD7, ST. HELENA ISLAND. Barry, ZD7MY, made a rare appearance a week ago on Sunday, September 30th, on 20 meters (14215 kHz around 0620z). Hopefully, this is a good sign that Barry will be active again. QSL via CBA. ZD9, GOUGH ISLAND. Chris, ex-ZS8IR, is now active as ZD9IR and will be active for the next year. He is expected to be active on 160-10 meters CW/SSB/RTTY. Currently, reports indicate that he is only using a wire antenna, but he plans to put up a beam for 20/15/10 meters and better arrays for the lower bands. His activity over the past week were on 30/17/15/10 meters. QSL via ZS6EZ. ZK1, SOUTH COOK ISLANDS (Also North Cook Info). Victor, ZK1CG, has informed OPDX earlier in the week that the Telecom of the Cook Islands have issued him a special callsign to use to show support for the "People of the United States" in these trying times. The callsign to be used is "ZK1USA". Victor will get special QSLs cards made up for this special callsign. He was spotted last week on 20 meters around 14245 kHz around 1415z and on a net on 14183 kHz around 0600z. QSL via ZK1CG: Victor Rivera, PO Box 618, Rarotonga Cook Islands, Via New Zealand. Later in the week, Victor sent your editor another message containing more details of his special activity and the upcoming Manihiki, North Cook Island operation. Victor states he just started this past week using the ZK1USA callsign. However, since all of his antennas are set up on North Cook, he is only using a G5RV from Rarotonga until October 18th, when he flies up to Manihiki with Roger, W7VV (ZK1VVV). He mentioned that the callsign ZK1USA has caused a little stir especially on the ANZA Net. Victor states, "hams from the USA and around the world are sending E-mails thanking me for the thought and best wishes from the Cook Islands. The people of the Cook Islands have a very special feeling for the people of the United States and they have expressed their thoughts and concern for the people lost in the tragic event that has effected everyone in one way or another. Most Americans do not know about the Cook Islands but a lot of them were stationed on two of the Islands during the Pacific war in the 40's on bases in the South Cooks and North Cooks. Being an American here in the Cooks for almost 25 years, I still feel a strong sense of being American and this will never change. Just happy that we can show in a small way our support and the Cook Island people are thinking of the people in America and Around the World in these trying times. When we return from the trip to Manihiki we will get a special QSL made up for this callsign to send out." He adds that for the CQWW SSB Contest they will use ZK1CG callsign as planned by the Tuatai Group: ZK1MA (Also ZK1CY), Roger/ZK1VVV (W7VV), Bob/ZK1ASQ (W7TSQ), John/ZK1APM (AA7PM), and Ralph/ ZK1AKX (VE7XF). To contribute DX info, call BARF-80 BBS online at 440-237-8208 28.8k/14400/9600/2400/1200 and leave a message with the Sysop or send via InterNet Mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - OR - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Use the VOICE or FAX answering machine at 440-237-8208 which shares the same phone line as BARF-80 BBS using a data/fax/phone switch. To access: 1) Dial Number. 2) Wait for first ring (the second ring should be a false ring from the fax/data switch box) and then dial four quick ones ("1111").
