Some time ago someone here raised a question about postage costs in Australia. Some claimed Australia Post is asking for two IRC's for standard letter, this is completely wrong.

I usually buy 10-20 AU$1.65 stamps and that lasts me for a while. The GS's and IRC's I receive from others I usually put together with my QSL requests so they never see aus. post office. But, today I found myself short of everything so I went to the Post office and here are the results:

[ For the reference US$ 1.00 = AU$ 1.78 or AU$ 1.00 = US$ 0.56 ]

AIR MAIL letter to JA and ZL costs AU$ 1.10 (US$ 0.62)
AIR MAIL letter elsewhere costs AU$ 1.65 (US$ 0.92), including to the middle of nowhere - VQ9, I just sent one today

So, 1 GS will do the job no matter where you are.

1 IRC covers standard AIR MAIL letter to anywhere in the world.
1 IRC bought at Australia Post costs AU$ 2.50 (US$ 1.40) which is a rip-off.

So, if someone asks you for 2 GS or 2 IRC - well, you know were to tell him to go to :-)
