I.C.P.O. Bulletin (April 2 - 15, 2003) Islands, Castles & Portable Operations - "I.C.P.O." Operations are listed by start date (Day/Month/Year) ===============================================
02/04/2003: Members of the Scouts Radio Club SP5ZCC (SP5UAF, SP5LCC, SP5MBQ and SP5ULC/M0ULC) will be active from Guernsey Island (EU-114). Period of activity: April 2nd through 8th. This operation is organized to celebrate 23 years of the Scouts Radio Club SP5ZCC and also 70th Anniversary SP DX Contest. Call-signs to be used: MU/SP5UAF, MU/SP5LCC, MU/SP5MBQ and MU0ULC. The call MU0ULC will be used during SP DX Contest. SPDXC is a single-country contest (SP HAMs work stations outside Poland) but all calls will be answered. Before and after the contest operators will be active on all possible bands and modes. All QSL cards (for all call-signs) go via SP5ZCC (the best way is via the buresu). [Tnx SP5UAF] 02/04/2003: Ralph, NM5RC, has plans for some island action as follows. Goal: Ten new US islands in eastern New Mexico and western Texas. Actual islands and number of islands activated will depend on weather and how many of the islands shown on maps/aerial photos are high and dry due to low water levels due to drought. First islands visited will be Rattlesnake in Conchas Lake, San Miguel County, NM. Then Watson #3, Watson #4 and Watson #5 in Ute Lake, Quay County NM. There might be more in Ute Lake. Then on to northwest Texas for more islands. Dates: Trip dates are April 1-11. On island dates are April 2 through 9 (maybe 10); some of these days will be lost to travel and bad weather. In years past Ralph has made two different four-day spring fishing trips to this area and both times was only able to get the boat in the water one day due to high winds. Times: Activations will generally be between 1500-2300 UTC. Where there is only one island in lake, he will generally run until activity lags. If a lake has more than one island, contacts from each island will be just a few more than required for USI qualification to leave time to move from island to island. Frequencies: Primarily 20 meters; 14250-14270 kHz. Will readily move for nets, so please look around a bit if you see a spot and he is not there. For single lake islands where time allows, expect to also try 10 meters; 28450 kHz (+/-). QSLing: Direct, bureau or e-mail. If you have previously sent your QSL card to him, just e-mail and indicate if you want a card or e-mail reply. If you have not previously sent your QSL card to him, send a card to get a card. Ralph will automatically send cards to all DX contacts. Expect getting paper logs to the computer, getting cards printed and getting QSLs answered by June 15, 2003.
