Ketil, thanks for the suggestion, but I agree with Mirco. Many if not most notification bubbles should be from things that are not apps: connecting to wi-fi, print progress, low battery, and so on. It wouldn't be appropriate to show the app name in any of those cases. So for the cases where it is appropriate, it is up to the app to include the app name.

Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/362261 Title: Option to print the name of the application that send the notification Status in “notify-osd” package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: This is clearly wishlist material. I'd like a small option to have the notifications include the name of the app where the notification comes from. It could be like this: ------------------------- Gwibber notifies: Someperson says: bla, bla, bla, bla -------------------------- The reason for this is that many apps have similar functionality, e.g. microblog updates. Currently I use Gwibber and Gnome Do, and they both show status updates. Obviously I don't need the same notifcations from the same app, so I'd like to see which apps are notifying me, so I can turn off the ones I don't need. (An option to ignore notifications from certain apps would also be nice, but that's another issue.) The indicator-applet could have a small set of preferences from the right click menu.
