In my case I fix this by downgrading libprotobuf7 to version in repository. Until that moment I had a version from PPA: https://launchpad.net/~chris-lea/+archive/protobuf

Two days ago after system restart unity could not start. Only nautilus desktop shows on the screen. On different accounts (users and guest) there is the same error .xsession-errors has nothing about unity XFree86.log also Nothing so far helps.
